In Memory of all the lives lost in Newton, Connecticut

This week, instead of writing about business happenings or my own children; I would like to take the opportunity to express my sentiments on this past week's shocking and life changing events in Newton, Connecticut.  Like the people all over our country and world, I too have been struggling to comprehend this news.  When I first heard what had happened, I think I was in disbelief. I sat there watching the news, listening to the reporters, but I didn't believe, I couldn't.

As a parent, all we want to do is keep our children safe.  The thought of them being harmed is unimaginable. Since this massacre I try to keep those children's screams and fears from running through my head.

I have two daughters, one of them is in Kindergarten.  Same age, similar grade, same type of school, same nurturing environment. I have found myself fighting back tears everyday.  I cry for their mothers and fathers.  I cry for their families. I cry inside and out.  Every time I see their faces, hear their stories, because I know how easily that could have been my daughter.

It is incomprehensible that a very disturbed boy, but a boy just the same, could do this to the most innocent of lives.  I listened to the president speak today.  He told of 6 different stories, all in our country, all happening today, all gun related homicides that took innocent lives. I ask myself, what is happening to our world and the people living in it? Where is humanity going? Something is broken.

The Mayans talk of December 21, 2012 as being the end of the world.  I don't believe that to be true, but I do think, maybe they were on to something.  There has been so many travesties in our lifetime and it seems even more as of recent.  Maybe it is time.  Maybe it is the end of time living as we do.  Maybe this is a time when we wake up.  We can not continue as we have been.  We need to fix what is broken.  We are all accountable.

Although, I feel broken right now; at heart, I am an optimist. I believe good wins over evil and love conquers all. I do think as a whole most people want what is right and have the power to change our system.

It is time we wake up.
